Sadly, a very disappointing evening at Milton Keynes Theatre. At £53 a ticket, I expected John Cleese to be the main event. Instead, we had barely ten minutes of John speaking, much of it difficult to hear while numerous 30+ latecomers were still being shown to their seats. Then came a two-hour screening of Monty Python and the Holy Grail. I’m 66, saw it in 1975 and didn’t find it funny then. Fifty-one years hasn’t changed my mind. The real disappointment was the wasted opportunity. John has an extraordinary career and a good interviewer could have drawn out fascinating stories about Fawlty Towers, his films and the people he’s worked with. Instead, it felt like an expensive cinema screening with a brief celebrity appearance. The theatre was freezing too AC on full blast. We left at the interval as it was SO cold. At £53 each, sadly poor value and a huge wasted opportunity.
